Why Make a DAF Gift?
- Tax-efficient: You’ve already received your tax deduction when you contributed to your DAF, so your grant to Joybound comes with no additional paperwork on your end.
- Simple: No need to write a check or enter payment details — your provider handles the transfer.
- Flexible: Recommend a one-time gift or set up recurring grants to support our work year after year.
How to Make a DAF Gift
Option 1: Give Instantly via DAF Direct
Use our DAF giving tool to search for your fund provider and recommend a grant right from this page — no need to log in elsewhere.
- Click the “Give via DAF Direct” button.
- Search for and select your fund provider, e.g. Fidelity Charitable, Schwab Charitable or BNY Mellon.
- Log in to your provider’s portal when prompted.
- Confirm your grant amount and submit.
That’s it — your provider will send the grant directly to Joybound People & Pets.
Option 2: Recommend a Grant Through Your Provider
Do you prefer to go straight to your fund provider’s website or app? You can recommend a grant to Joybound there instead. Just use the following information:
- Legal Name: Joybound People & Pets
- Federal Tax ID (EIN): 68-0240341
- Mailing Address: 2890 Mitchell Drive, Walnut Creek, CA 94598 
- Purpose (optional): e.g., “Where needed most” or a specific program name
Simply log in to your DAF provider’s website, search for Joybound People & Pets using our EIN or name and recommend your grant amount.
Option 3: Give via FreeWill’s Smart Giving Portal
Making a contribution from your Donor-Advised Fund (DAF) just got a whole lot easier. FreeWill uses DAFpay, created by Chariot, to connect with major donor-advised fund sponsors, saving you time while streamlining the grant request process.
- Click the “Give via FreeWill” button.
- Choose the amount you wish to grant
- Provide your contact information so that we can ensure your donation is used as intended
- Use your log-in credentials to connect to your Donor-Advised Fund account and submit
Your Donor Advised Fund provider will receive the grant request and send you a confirmation email. Once the request has been approved, the funds will be sent directly to Joybound.

What kind of shelter or rescue is Joybound?
Joybound People & Pets (formerly the Animal Rescue Foundation) is a 501(c)(3) registered non-profit organization founded in 1991 to rescue dogs and cats from overcrowded municipal shelters and strengthen the human-animal bond for children, seniors, Veterans, and people in need. Our team is committed to finding homes for all healthy and treatable dogs and cats in our care. Animals with treatable medical or behavioral conditions are evaluated and cared for prior to rehoming them. Can I surrender an animal to Joybound?
We rescue dogs and cats from overcrowded or under-resourced municipal shelters. We do not accept surrenders from the public. If you feel unable to continue caring for your pet, please contact our Resource Center or read about rehoming a pet.

Does Joybound offer veterinary services?
Animals in our adoption program are given veterinary care at our state-of-the-art clinic, but we do not provide primary veterinary services to the public.
Limited services are available for low-cost spay and neuter, dental cleaning services, end-of-life services, veterinary assistance programs for low-income pet guardians, and wellness veterinary care for Veterans’ pets. Explore veterinary assistance options.
Will Joybound help fund my organization or project?
We are a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, relying solely upon donations to fund our programs. We are not a granting organization and do not accept solicitations for funding.
