Shelters Expect Many Pets to be Given Up in Coming Year
KCBS Radio interviewed Elena Bicker, ARF Executive Director, about bracing for a surge of pets as more people face economic hardships from the coronavirus.
Although many people are fostering and adopting shelter animals at this time, Elena Bicker told KCBS Radio they fear many more people who have lost a job or home will soon have to surrender their pets. “We’re working to ensure that animals that are in need of food have access to it, and pet owners aren’t redirecting their own food for their animals.”

Earlier this week, our team returned from Los Angeles with our SECOND batch of adoptable animals from shelters impacted by the Palisades Fire. With your help, this will be the first of many trips, offering continuing support to the shelters and communities who have been impacted.
By clearing adoptable dogs and cats out of shelters, our team is able to alleviate space for animals displaced so they can be reunited with their families.
