About Solo’s Play Yard
In a few short months, Joybound’s canine guests will have a place to romp under the redwoods and spread joy to all who enter our main building. Thanks to a generous supporter, this space will be known as “Solo’s Play Yard.”
The play yard’s namesake, Solo (pictured), is a playful, energetic pup who absolutely loves to play outside. He enjoys the fresh air, seeing all the people and playing with other dogs. The play yard will give Joybound’s adoptable dogs the freedom to run, leap, and explore in a natural environment, allowing them to express their true personalities under the skilled eyes of our trained staff and volunteers. While Solo won’t be able to mingle for health and safety reasons, we’re sure he is excited that the Joybound dogs will get to enjoy a beautiful outdoor space that will help them stay healthy and happy.
At Joybound, we know that play is not just fun for dogs — it is essential to their well-being. Giving shelter dogs the opportunity to play with other dogs bridges the gap between shelter and adoption. This reduces stress and lets them show their most relaxed and happy selves to potential adopters.
Visitors watching the dogs play can envision the companionship and love these animals will bring into their lives. This connection will help us strengthen community bonds and increase each dog’s chances of finding a wonderful new home.
Solo’s Play Yard will also provide a neutral, safe space for introducing dogs to one another. A neutral environment helps minimize territorial behavior, allowing both dogs to feel more at ease as they get to know each other. By fostering positive interactions, we can create better adoption matches and increase the likelihood of a successful transition into a new home.
This project is one more step forward in transforming Joybound’s campus into a destination where visitors of all ages and backgrounds can explore, learn about, and experience the human-animal bond. Solo’s Play Yard will invite guests to enjoy nature and the joy of dogs at play, creating a warm, welcoming atmosphere that will lead to many years of wagging tails and smiling faces.
